What is Buddies, Books & Brunch?
Buddies, Books & Brunch: A Celebration of Black History was created in 2013 by Rebecca Guillory to ensure her campus taught and celebrated notable African Americans and their impact and contributions to the United States of America. The Buddies, Books & Brunch team (comprised of teachers, campus administraors, parents, and community stakeholders) works hard to create campus –wide activities for the entire month of February, including a door decorating contest and daily mini lessons about famous African Americans. On the day of our featured program, Black professionals, or Buddies, come to the host campus and visit each classroom to discuss their college and/or career experiences and read a book written by an African American author. The day ends with brunch for all guests, teachers, and staff as a token of appreciation for everyone's diligent work.
Because we want all campuses to enjoy Buddies, Books & Brunch, we select a different host campus each year. If you'd like your campus to be chosen or want to be part of our annual event, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
