What started as a passion for music and the motivation to keep people dancing quickly became a life’s work for Rican McGusty. Along with years of experience in the field of civil engineering, he has combined his diverse expertise for a career not only as a deejay but an event planner and all around entrepreneur. He is responsible for the successful branding of himself under the professional moniker DJ BigReeks as well as the founding and creative direction of The Waxaholics.

DJ BigReeks’ accomplishments in the field of all things music and vinyl include an ongoing residency at one of Houston’s best dance clubs, Fox Hollow, Sunday brunch at Bar 5015 and four successful years of all vinyl weekly events with The Waxaholics. DJ BigReeks also coordinates and executes a weekly live radio mix on All Real Radio. Not only has DJ BigReeks expanded to multiple weekly and monthly deejaying events, The Waxaholics’ events have grown to include star deejays from all over the country, live music performances and have garnered sponsorship from Houston’s Mega DJ Center, Sig’s Lagoon Record Shop and All Real Radio.

DJ BigReeks has also spun alongside names such as Mick (formerly Mick Boogie), Biz Markie, Dj Drama, Dj Cut Creator, and Kid Capri; worked with clients including Microsoft, Mathew Knowles of Music Word Entertainment and House of Dereon and T-Mobile, Rick Smith, Tracy McGrady, Mathew Knowles, Tina Knowles, Eddie George, and Darryl Hamilton; provided opening sets for The Geto Boys, Nas and Dj Green Lantern, as well as special events for The Health Museum and Children’s Museum, Kendra Scott, Hennessy, Spotify, AirBnB, Red Bull, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

DJ BigReeks has also participated in The Houston Oktoberfest, The Essence Festival in New Orleans, SXSW, The Houston Texans Draft Party, The Suffers New Years Eve Party, Texas College DJ Battle, The Beer Bash and more as well as continuing to deejay for events including private parties and weddings.

DJ BigReeks continues to carve out a meaningful space for vinyl enthusiasts and party goers throughout the Houston area.
